LC Convertible Concept Coming To Detroit

The Lexus LC coupe is without question one of the brands most ambitious and breathtaking designs to date. Their design team has been hard at work developing the next iteration of the platform and have confirmed an open-air roadster concept will debut at the 2019 North American International Auto Show.

It will retain the same sculpted profile of the LC coupe while infusing the sensory stimulation that can only be found in a convertible. We expect that it is only a preview of the brand's evolution, as they continue to explore new, alluring customer-focused designs.

This will be more than just another grand tourer, and Lexus will ensure that the new variant will uphold the performance pedigree that customers have come to expect.

Though it has not been confirmed for production, following the feedback from NAIAS, Lexus will have little choice, but to bring it to market. We expect that new models like the LC Convertible will serve as a halo vehicle for the rest of the Lexus lineup.

It took me some time to get over the fact that this is a soft top but it does leave room for a hard top option. How much extra would you guys pay if it happened??

The last thing the LC needs is more weight! Unless they reduce weight of the vehicle, just keep it soft top.

Are you crazy? This is a Grand Tourer, what it needs more of are options like this. Just be glad they shown it off in a soft top and not a hard top like the SC430.

I think there is room for both options. Though Lexus has decided on a soft top to keep pricing reasonable and ensure there is no negative impact on performance.

It might just be them taking a page from BMW's playbook but a hardtop vert has always been Lexus' strategy.

I like the idea of a soft top with a color to compliment the color of the car.

But this car celebrates unique styling, they are big on the concept of being different. Some sort of inventive hard top geometry might be more appropriate.

Yes that means more weight, and raises the center of gravity. But this is not an extreme sports car. It’s a really cool sporty car that can be used for touring despite the small trunk its extreme styling produces.

Anyone who wants more extreme performance might be happier elsewhere.

2015 Toyota Tundra TRD PRO (our third Tundra tow vehicle)
2015 Honda Civic Si, great little daily
2019 Lexus LC 500, 2019 McLaren 570S Oh my!

Actually, anyone who wants more extreme performance just needs patience.
I say that because an LC-F is in the works and will apparently launch with an all new F performance engine. Of course it will cost far more but should hopefully become everything we need from a BMW M8 alternative.

That car will be quite a rocket.
