Carplay

Had a deal set up today for a 2018 LC 500, deposit placed. Then realized that Apple Carplay was not onboard. Total deal breaker. Gee, every Hyundai in the country has it, I just assumed this flagship would

So, has anyone figured out how to update a 2018 to the 2019 standard? Would be awesome if just some firmware fix.

I know other brands such as Mazda have mentioned adding this kind of compatibility via a retrofit for a few hundred bucks to their older models. Seems like it might have to have been designed that way from the beginning however.

I haven't heard that Lexus would be updating their "older" LC models. But I would sure love for them to retrograde these upgrades. There's the transmission programming shouldn't which be too difficult, since it's software related - CarPlay seems like it could be as well. I just don't think they would offer these to previous owners though. Based on an article on Lexus Enthusiast, it seems that Alexa and Carplay won't be offered to previous owners.

It specifically states:
When asked about vehicles built prior to October (2018), Lexus USA spokesperson Ed Hellwig said “Existing owners will not be able to update their systems with CarPlay functionality”.

Late update, but we found a 2019 in a spec that suits our needs well. Nice to be able to run WAZE and Spotify right on the main screen.

The next progression will be wireless. Only a couple dozen vehicles out there have it, so the question becomes, “can our cars ever be updated to this if they have carplay and bluetooth?”

Currently you have to start the car, unlock your phone, plug it into usb, give it a few seconds, navigate to carplay (center of screen at bottom), click, enjoy. I’d want waze to come on automatically like the sound system, and have immediate voice interface. “Where are we going?”

It’s still great to have though. When first driving the car I did not see a good place to put the phone. Eventually I figured out to get a four inch usb cable and put the phone away in the console. The car will everything for us, “on its own”

Angry Carplay 2018 Update

Been going back with Lexus corporate. They are working on testing it internally. More news will be posted in the summer. See attachment below from one of their webpages.
Lexus remains committed to enhancing our in vehicle multimedia guest experience. We are currently conducting and internal trial for apple carplay compatibility in some 2018 LC, 2018 LS, 2018/19 NX, 2018 RC, 2018/19 RC F, and 2019 ES non navigation. At this time, we do not have any additional information we can share but anticipate providing further details to the applicable guests in Summer 2019.

Well, we should all continue to petition the Lexus feedback to make sure it happens.

Looks like that update for the 2018s will soon be available, for $200. I’m interested to see if other people find it more difficult to work with the touchpad like I have, and if there is much voice integration with the car.

Would have put it in the earlier post but this retarded forum does not allow editing after a few seconds.

The Face Book pages are far superior to this yawn place. Posting pics is a cinch.

it's so funny to me to hear anyone not wanting a car due to "car play or android auto"...this shows age difference clearly...because that was the least important thing to me...lol...i must be wayyyyy older than yall...ha! This car does everything i could ever want OTHER than the front camera thing but i'm having a front camera installed soon! it's a must... I guess people use their smart phones a lot more than i do...
